Off Trail Parnassos – Baroutospilia route 24.5 km. (map)

It is part of the big route of the 24.5 km. of the race Off Trail Parnassos at an altitude of 1.550 m. The route has taken its name from the crossing from Baroutospilia, a big impressive cave which is through-and-through and the runners of the race cross it by entering from one of its entrance and exiting from the other.

Description of the route of the race

The route begins from Milias Camps, it goes up following paths, forest roads as well as virgin fields in the forest, off trail, ending at Ai Lias (1.406 m). From there, the route follows the edge and it descents through a beautiful high forest until it meets again the forest road. The road leads to a spring from where route leaves the road and moves again off trail between the fir trees to a difficult field that also includes passing through a dried out riverbed with rocks. Then the ravine gets narrower and it leads to a big and impressive cave, Baroutospilia. As it was mentioned earlier, this cave is through-and-through and the participants enter from one entrance and exit from the other, in order to continue by descending a sheer scree and to enter the now proper path, that descends to the village Mariolata. From there, a few kilometers of a small uphill dirt road lead us over the starting point. Finishing line from path and meadow.
