The distinguishing feature of the monuments of Delphi is the Tholos, which is located at the temple of Athena Pronaia between the newer temple of Athena and the treasury of the Massaliots.
This archaeological monument is dated back to 380 B.C. while its architect was Theodore from Phocea or Phocis.
It is rumored that in this majestic circular structure of classical architecture, a chthonic divinity was worshiped yet the detailed use of Tholos still remains unknown.
Tholos was partially reconstructed in 1938, while architectural parts and mostly, the saved parts from the adornment that was sculptured have been maintained and are exhibited today in the Delphi Archaeological Museum.
